Celebrating the Women Behind Òr
International Women's Day is the perfect excuse for us to shine a light on the incredible women who make Òr what it is - from the talented independent makers we collaborate with to the dedicated team who keep us running every day. Òr is a business built on creativity, craftsmanship, and connection, and we are proud to work alongside so many inspiring women who bring these values to life.
Julija Pustovrh

Trained as a landscape architect, Edinburgh-based ceramicist Julija Pustovrh carries a deep-rooted affinity for natural materials and organic forms. Since turning to ceramics in 2016, her practice has unfolded with quiet deliberation, a careful balance of wheel-thrown precision and the soft irregularities of hand-building. The result is work that feels timeless and deeply grounded in the landscapes that inspire her.
Her collaboration with Òr has given rise to some of our most cherished pieces - the Skye Sand Quaich and the Skye Sand Oil Burner Wax Melter - each enriched with sand gathered from the shores of Skye. Even the brushes she uses to decorate her Edinburgh Clay Cups are made by hand, from grasses she collects while walking the windswept paths of Arthur’s Seat. Her ability to infuse her ceramics with a genuine sense of place makes every piece feel personal, tactile, and deeply connected to the Scottish landscape.
Rosana Expósito

With a commitment to sustainability and slow fashion, designer Rosana Expósito creates clothing and accessories using only natural fibres and surplus materials. Based in Glasgow, Rosana’s approach ensures that nothing goes to waste - whether she’s transforming selvedge edges of cashmere into scrunchies or making Scottish wool hats in ever-evolving colour palettes.
Her designs reflect her passion for traditional techniques and ethical-making. For Rosana, the fabric itself is the starting point, and from there, she lets the materials guide the design. The result? Beautiful, high-quality pieces that feel as good as they look.
Heather McDermott
Photo of Heather by Peter McDermott
Growing up on the Isle of Skye, jeweller Heather McDermott found endless inspiration in the rugged coastline and the objects that washed up along the shore. Fishing nets, buoys, and driftwood - shaped by the elements - form the foundation of her jewellery designs.Using stainless steel, she meticulously hand-forms geometric shapes reminiscent of lobster pots and fishing gear, creating sculptural yet wearable pieces.
Heather’s work is bold and full of movement, carrying a rhythm that feels shaped by the tide.
And this year, there’s another exciting new chapter for Heather - she’s about to become a mum! We can’t wait to see how this next adventure weaves its way into her creativity, bringing fresh perspective to her practice.
Jen Carter Pearson

Our founder, Jen, has shaped Òr into the space it is today with her vision, passion, and deep appreciation for craft. A talented jeweller in her own right, she draws endless inspiration from Skye’s dramatic landscapes - the jagged peaks, shifting shorelines, and weather-worn rock formations that define the island. Her designs, like the Coralline Open Ring and Sgurr Nan Gillean necklace, capture this untamed beauty in delicate metalwork. Every piece she creates reflects the raw textures and contours of the land, offering a wearable connection to the wild spirit of Skye.
The Women at Òr
Òr is powered by a small but mighty team, with an incredible group of women at its core. Their passion runs through everything we do - whether it’s curating our collection, carefully packing orders, or creating a warm welcome for our customers.
That same care and creativity shape some of the pieces we share, from Jane’s much-loved handmade jewellery and Anna’s watercolour paintings, to the beautiful moments Hannah captures behind the camera (if you’ve ever fallen for a photo on our Instagram or Facebook, there’s a good chance it was taken by her).
We’re endlessly grateful for the skill, dedication, and creativity these women bring to Òr every day.
