From Sketch to Shelf: Our Exclusive Ceramic Collaboration with Pantry Pots

At Òr, we’re always looking for wonderful new makers and artists whose work resonates with our community. This guides everything we do, from the ideas we explore, the pieces we create  and the homes they eventually belong to.

Skye and its surrounding glens and crofts are a constant source of inspiration for us. The light, sea, and shifting seasons all shape how we work with artists and what each collaboration grows into.

So when we first saw the beautiful ceramics from Pantry Pots, we just knew they’d be perfect for Òr. There’s something in Veronika’s painterly style, her hand-drawn details, and her original illustrations, that instantly felt like a natural fit. We could see how our Scottish island flora would come to life through her work. And when we shared the idea with her, she was just as excited as we were!

Born in the Czech Republic, Veronika’s work is inspired by her rural upbringing. Some of her earliest childhood memories are from her great-grandmother’s homestead, where the kitchen and walk-in pantry was at the heart of everything.

It was a space filled with the scent of freshly baked goods, rows of preserves from the harvest, and shelves stacked with handmade crockery, each piece worn from years of use. Veronika’s pottery is a tribute to that sense of warmth, tradition and seasonal living.

“There’s a small piece of this pantry in every piece I make,” Veronika says.

Each piece has a beautiful handmade quality with the designs painted by hand in Veronika’s studio, so no two are exactly alike and each carries the care and character of the maker.

We were struck by the way Veronika captures originality in every hand-painted illustration, giving her designs refined yet unique personality.” – Jen, founder of Òr

From the beginning, we knew we wanted to create something timeless. The kind of piece that lives easily on a shelf but is just as lovely to use every day for years to come.

We sent Veronika pages of inspiration, drawn from the island’s landscape, and spent time choosing the designs and forms that felt most complementary to her hand-painted work. From there, we refined the details together, adjusting placement and composition while keeping the soft shapes that define her work.

We firstly wanted to include the thistle’s unmistakable silhouette, for it to be recognisable but more delicate in its design. The deep ink blue from Veronika’s palette was a natural companion, a classic and sophisticated colour with a hint of tradition that paired beautifully with the thistle’s symbolism.

For the gorse, we softened the plant’s famously prickly personality into something more inviting. We chose a warm mustard yellow, not quite the electric yellow of the flowering shrub, but something deeper and more versatile for the home.

The result of all those ideas, sketches, conversations and colour tests is a series of ceramic pieces that feel both joyful and functional. Available exclusively at Òr, the collection includes wall sconces for a single taper candlehand-painted plates that are perfect for your table all year round, and a butter dome that’s a firm favourite in the shops already!

Veronika sent some wonderful sketches and photos, but the first time we saw the finished pieces in person was when we opened the box in the shop, it was such an exciting moment!” – Jen, founder of Òr
