Scotland’s rugged landscapes and the traditional art of ceramic making. Each bothy—small, handmade stoneware sculptures inspired by Scottish shelters—is both functional and decorative, ideal for burning incense cones or tealights.
These pieces are created through hand-thrown and hand-built techniques, ensuring that no two are identical. The textured, black stoneware and hand-carved surfaces capture the rough, natural beauty of Scotland’s coastal landscape.
The name Carrick reflects her roots, derived from the coastal area near her hometown in Galloway. Holt’s work is heavily influenced by Japanese aesthetics, particularly wabi-sabi, which embraces imperfection and the natural flaws that make each piece unique.
The bothies, measuring about 6-8 cm in height and 9 cm in width, are not only visually striking but also evoke a sense of warmth and tradition. Through these small shelters, she captures the spirit of Scottish bothies and the rugged beauty of her homeland, offering a minimalist yet soulful connection to nature and tradition.
Please note due to their handmade nature each piece will vary, making each one unique in their style. The windows, size, shape and texture will change. Please see all photos showing the possible variatons.
