Flourishing Femininity – Prints by the Bay from Nicole Revy
Dive into the world of Nicole Revy, one of our artists at Òr who has a talent for creating linocut prints inspired by the things she loves most — nature, womanhood, and the sea.
Her studio by the ocean in Dorset, aptly named Prints by the Bay, gives her the perfect vantage point to observe the shifting skies, rolling waves and to pursue her passion of sharing sea swimming with her predominantly female family. "Womanhood and the landscape around me are intertwined subject matter in all my artworks. I exclusively represent the female experience—both real and imaginary—so my prints have a timeless feel to them," Nicole explains.
The 'Into the Waves’ print is a perfect example of Nicole’s love for celebrating the feminine figure and natural world. Ocean scenes like this one are often mixed with magic and folklore to create her unique and recognisable style.
A graduate of Arts University Bournemouth, Nicole began experimenting with linocut in 2019 and quickly fell in love with the process. "I immediately loved linocut and how it perfectly fitted my style of hand drawing. It is a completely analogue way of working which creates an original, affordable artwork that captures the imagination with its rustic charm!" she shares.
After graduating, art remained a side hustle while she raised her three children, but her passion for creativity never wavered. "My background is in illustration, specialising in hand-drawn techniques—pen, ink, pencils, and paint on paper—back in a time when Adobe Illustrator and Vector were all the rage, so it was quite unfashionable!" she explains.
Aesthetically Nicole’s work has a natural harmony with Òr, and it is safe to say her creations are a perfect fit for our ethos of celebrating handmade crafts. "Skye often seems to parallel the wild Dorset coastland—so it’s not surprising that some of my wild-themed prints have found their home at Òr. They have hand-picked some of my works that celebrate the beauty of nature and our connection to it, and I’m very proud to call them a stockist,” shares Nicole.
Whether you're looking to add a thoughtfully handmade piece to your home or give artwork to someone special, Nicole Revy’s prints are a wonderful choice. We could not be more delighted to give a temporary home to Nicole’s work before it finds a more permanent place in yours.
