Am Faoilleach Folklore Print

£30.00

This artwork is created by Abbie Lois, a Scottish illustrator and printmaker who reimagines the traditions of storytelling for modern day.

Her prints are rooted in folklore, with characters and landscapes taking a key role in her work. This particular print is inspired by Scottish lore with tales of the powerful goddess Cailleach, a figure often associated with wild animals such as red deer, boar and wolves. A primal being linked to winter, wilderness and transformation, the goddess shares the wolf's ties to the land which, until around the 1700s, roamed freely in Scotland. The term Faoilleach is Gaelic for January, with the roots of the word 'fáel' or 'faol' meaning 'wolf'.

The original artwork was hand-drawn by Abbie, before being screen printed with six layers and produced in digital form onto FSC-certified perlino cotton 250gsm paper, giving the piece a slightly textured finish. The print is hand-signed by the artist and includes a small card explaining the inspiration and story behind the design.
