Meet Chris Viviani, the Talented Artist Behind Clod & Pebble…

We thought it was about time we introduced you properly!

After years of office jobs in Edinburgh, Chris found himself yearning to get his hands dirty again—literally! Having studied sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art, Chris had a creative background, but it wasn’t until he began exploring creating with clay in his spare time that he truly rediscovered his passion.

He started by experimenting with pit firing, building a makeshift wood-fired chimney kiln, and—our personal favourite—attempting to fire pots in the barbeque. Sadly, not many of those early pieces survived the trial and error process, but undeterred, Chris was hooked and we’re so glad he was!

Determined to pursue pottery, he eventually managed to get his first kick wheel & kiln from Gumtree. Since then, Chris has upgraded to an electric wheel (which he highly recommends unless you’re after legs of steel!).

A self-taught potter, Chris learned mostly from YouTube tutorials (yes, that endless scrolling can sometimes pay off!). His style is beautifully unique, striking a balance between raw and refined. Each piece is crafted by hand, using only the best ethically sourced materials.

Chris works from his family’s farm just outside Craigie. Nestled in the rolling hills of Ayrshire, the studio is as much a labour of love as the stunning pottery he produces. He’s often found rearranging & reorganising his studio space, which has shelves full of beautiful pieces.

If you ask him about his process, he’ll tell you that the weather plays a bigger role than you might think. Clay dries much faster in the warm summer months than in the damp Scottish winter.

When he’s not in the studio, Chris is an avid gardener and foodie. We’re convinced that his love for fresh ingredients and home-cooked meals somehow sneaks into the soul of his work. There’s something about his pottery that feels warm, organic, and just perfect for a cosy kitchen.

If you’re looking for something special for your home, check out some of Chris’s pieces—or follow him on Instagram at @clod&pebble. His feed is full of mesmerising videos of him throwing clay, behind-the-scenes moments, and lovely stills of his finished pieces. Be warned though—you might fall down a rabbit hole of beautiful pottery reels and not resurface for a while!

We couldn’t be happier to stock Chris’s beautiful creations. Every item from Clod & Pebble is lovingly crafted by hand, and when you hold one of his pieces, you can truly feel the care and passion that went into making it.

Pop in for a browse, or check out his collection here —you might just fall in love with a piece (or three) by Clod & Pebble.
