beware-of-the-cat-print
Beware of the Cat Print

This digitally reproduced artwork is created by Abbie Lois, a Scottish illustrator and printmaker based in Glasgow who reimagines the traditions of storytelling for modern day.

Her work is rooted in folklore, with characters and landscapes inspiring her artwork. This particular artwork is inspired by the persecution of women during the witch trials during the 16th and 17th centuries, where cats were said to be the familiars of witches. Though the origins of a cat having nine lives dates back to ancient Egypt, the author William Baldwin wrote the novel Beware the Cat in 1584 which referred to the number nine being the amount of times a witch may take on feline form.

The original artwork was hand-drawn by Abbie, before being screen printed and produced in digital form onto FSC-certified perlino cotton 250gsm paper, giving the piece a slightly textured finish. The print is hand-signed by the artist and includes a small card explaining the inspiration and story behind the design.

A3 size, unframed.
